If you have played any of the previous Mario Kart series in the past you will be able to pick this right up and feel right at home. So far it seems that this title has all of the best qualities from the last games all in one. This makes for a great Mario Kart game since there is a lot that will make you love it. From a good character selection to the best of power ups you can obtain. You’re likely to play this game with a group of friends for days and days.
We did play this game with and without the Wii Wheel. We are going to suggest you use the Wii Wheel as it adds a lot to the whole feel of Mario Kart. The turning and overall feel of the game felt pretty good. We were kind of suspectful about the Wii Wheels and using them with Mario Kart as we thought it was going to feel really loose or have a good amount of lag from the controller to the sensor. Our worries were put to rest when we had our first race, it was very responsive at all times.
There are a good amount of characters to choose from as well as there are Kart seven bikes you can ride on. Characters and karts can be unlocked by completing the 50cc, 100cc and the 150cc races.
Gameplay is where this game shines the most. Racing by opponents and cracking other characters with turtle shells or making them slip and crash with banana peels is just as fun as the previous Mario Kart titles. Now with two game modes Coin Runners and the classic Balloon battle you and your friends are going to have a good time bashing each other up.
A couple of players here at 3xGamer couldn’t get use to the feel of going slower than previous Mario Kart titles. Since each Kart or Bike has it’s own way of handling this actually gives more depth. This can be a good thing since other cars are actually slower but can take corners or have a longer mini boost than others.
Online mode so far has been a good jump for this series. The player setup system online is very user friendly. Everyone who chooses a map has a chance of there map being voted by the computer to play. This makes it fair and keeps the game going fast since there aren’t any real lobby’s of any sort. This is good and keeps it all about the kart racing.
If you haven’t had a chance to even get some gameplay time in Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii than you should probably give it a shot. Do not let the cute characters fool you. There is plenty to enjoy here for any age group. And if you’re ever online, beware of the deadly red turtle shells.
