Farmville and Facebook | Losers Unite
Hey, I’m no one to crap on Facebook or games that are any good. Farmville seems to have taken Facebook by storm. A social media game that has you create a virtual farm where you can annoy your friends on Facebook by giving them virtual crap such as vegatables and other useless items.
Though Farmville would never make it on any gaming sites, I had to mention for the sake of its growing popularity. I myself have received countless farming requests by friends that choose to spend their time virtual farming.
Boy, does this game blow.
The game borrows the business model from virtual currency games such as World of Warcraft and other MMO’s. Sure you get Farmville for free and other items to get you started. Once you sink deeper into Farmville’s endless abyss of slave labor, you’ll be asked for your credit card to gain additional currency/items. Even cheesier is the fact that you could at one time gain additional game currency by joining offers such as Netflix trials and such. I don’t think World of Warcraft could ever sink this low.
So before you go trash Farmville gamers, make sure you’re not an MMO gamer yourself. As there are a lot of similarities. The only rift I do have is that I don’t have any friends that play MMO’s that keep trying to “friend” me useless items that I couldn’t care less about.
Remember that this is an editorial and I know I’m in the minority. As I write this article, there are already more than 17 million “virtual farmers” on Farmville and the company behind the game, Zynga has received $300M from Russian mobsters, oops sorry I meant investors.
That means that this game is going to probably get a huge lift from updates, marketing and other forms of improvements. You’ll likely see other games similar to Farmville crop up. I’ve already been invited to have coffee at Cafe World. A similar game that I’ve seen invites for. God help us.
