After several months of eagerness building up and the massive hype around Batman Arkham Asylum, we were able to sit and play the latest installment. I myself couldn’t wait to get my hands on this game. I had watched several previews with the revamped evil Joker.

Visually, the game is stunning. We played the the game on both a plasma and LCD. Our preference being the plasma but in this case, the LCD just brought Arkham Asylum to life. The game is dark and features a cast of the Dark Night himself, The Joker and his HGH injected cast.

With a movie-like intro, the game easily gets you caught up into the world of Dark Asylum. Gameplay is intuitive at first as you easily batter enemies with fists to the face. Combos are easily to do and can be upgraded as you progress through the game. You’re also able to use equipment like the batarang, which is kind of weakly implemented. It doesn’t have the punch I would’ve liked to see.

The cast of Joker is implemented perfectly throughout the game. There’s also a few easter eggs in the likes of Riddlers trophies hidden throughout various rooms. There’s also interview reels that give you profiles on Batman’s enemies. Very similar to Bioshock and Deadspace.

Arkham Asylum also does a good job of instituting stealth into the game without it getting too frustrating. Think dropping down behind enemies ala Metal Gear Solid. As you’ll find out, Batman is human and will die if gets hot lead in his chest.

As I continued throughout the game, I felt like something was missing. As if the game could’ve been better.  Maybe it was the hype but I felt disappointed as I played through the game. Rarely did I feel challenged. If you do play, make sure you select the most difficult setting.

Although, I did very much enjoy seeing Batman on the 360 and PS3, ultimately I can’t recommend picking up this title at full price. Hold off till it drops under $30.
