Now here is a title from developers High Voltage Software that just doesn’t make the cut.  Although it reminds me of the good old days of first person shooters(Bond 007 or Perfect Dark), The Conduit will not be worth your $60.  With a overly sensitive aiming system and dull AI you are going to find yourself fed up and bored with it well into your first two weeks.  It is titles like these that make me wish Sega would have interjected at some point for a more polished game especially when Nintendo needs more solid mature titles.

Lined up for me...just too easy!

The motion sensors do add a lot.  Honestly, this is probably the only thing that makes the game worth playing.  If I had to use a controller I would have probably not been able to review it due to falling asleep.  I loved being able to fling my left hand and trigger the throw of a grenade or swinging my right hand to melee attack an alien with my rifle.  Yet, all this becomes boring if the AI isn’t doing much.  Enemies stand still and hardly move out of incoming fire, also if you run far enough they will stop chasing you.  You will find yourself running through the levels hoping to see an eye catching boss or a weapon of mass destruction that will blow your mind.  You will find none of that here, just the predictable basics.

Weaponry in the game wasn’t half bad with sound effects and design.  Games such as previous Halo titles tend to have weak sounds for rifles and alien weapons.  With plenty of health packs and ammo dispensers you almost never run out of ammunition, leaving levels too easy.  You may switch weapons freely as you kill enemies and are able to trade off your own but once you settle on a rifle you really won’t find yourself caring. If your eye is sharp you will find special weapons through out the levels using your “ASE” to manipulate and move different pyramid looking symbols on several walls.  Now are these weapons useful?  Not really, I found myself not caring about testing out weapons since each was as effective as the next, as long as you can find one with a scope your pretty much set.  I really do recommend something with a scope…aiming at first, will be your worst nightmare. So many grenades thrown away that were tossed in totally opposite directions.  I went through half the game until finally lowering the sensitivity by 70% and still found it a bit to jumpy.  It’s important for a first person shooter to be user friendly from the get go.

The Conduit lacks in many areas but I will admit I did enjoy it for the first two levels.  We know that the game has to be at least half decent for you to at least consider renting and that’s exactly what I recommend you do with this title…rent it.  As short as the game is and looks very simple it doesn’t play this way, which is very disappointing.  You aren’t missing much but if you feel this is the only way to get a more mature feel from your Wii console don’t expect to be blown away.
