With Ghostbusters now on the Xbox 360 you can run around and blast ghosts right back to the supernatural world they came from. Just…don’t cross streams while your doing it. Ghostbusters The Video Game has a lot of fun content to offer. It is now 1991, two years since the supernatural incidents from the last movie, which is good because the game incorporates the last events well into the game. You get to play as the rookie who has just been hired to try out and experiment with the new equipment. The game takes you through many different familiar monsters and ghosts you have seen from previous Ghostbuster movies even though the only monster that really sticks out in my head would be…Marshmallow Man and Slimer! Yes, both are here too.
I think a lot of new school gamers will pass on this game which sucks because this game has a lot to offer and might get lost with all the other games releasing this year. Yet there is one thing this game does have that makes it really easy to pick up and play. The lay out and heads up display is very simple and disappears out of sight as you navigate through the levels. Leaving the screen less cluttered. Which is a good thing because once your in battle things can get real hot. I found myself running jumping and switching through the 4 different laser streams that are available to you as you progress through the game. Each weapon has its own special attack which makes ghost trapping very fun. Explosions, glass shattering, and sticky ooze look sharp. Visually the games looks good the only thing really gets in the way is when you are trying to move around, you will find yourself getting stuck in between doors and tables. This can cause for annoying game play, but doesn’t happen often.
When more players are able to wrap there stream around the ghost the easier it becomes to get your ghost into the trap. Which means having a friend to help out is very handy especially in multiplayer. When in multiplayer you can play as any 5 characters from the actual story mode…Venkman, Egon, Ray, Winston, or the Rookie. Which is cool to say the least since they aren’t playable in career mode. Different game modes (Job Types) are also available such as Survival, Containment, Destruction, Protection, Thief, and Slime Dunk.
Controlling your character can get some time getting use to as all the main action buttons are assigned to your bumper and trigger keys. The game has a lot of surprises and a decent amount of upgradable options for the proton pack. Along with other hidden goodies/artifacts you can pick up through your PKE meter. The game is pretty solid and will definitely “take you back” if you love Ghost Busters. If you don’t, well this game will show you to appreciate it and the movies.
